Feb 5-24

I gotta quit going this long without writing--it's too much to remember. Okay, since February 4th:

Entertainment:

  • Broadway Series Camelot -- great show, great talent, but I gotta say Lou Diamond Phillips just is not a singer, he was on key, but not a strong voice, really bothered me because everyone else was SO good. He did, however, act the part well.

  • Shadowbox -- one of their best shows ever. It's a local rock-and-roll/comedy cabaret. We had a table of seven friends. Lots of fun.

  • Juno -- it is a good movie.

  • The Big White -- rented this movie from the library; kept my interest and had a good ending. Quirky but ultimately a positive story about relationships.

  • Weeds -- Abby borrowed the DVD from a friend, and we watched the entire first season together. At first I liked it, then I got tired of the main character's situation. Why doesn't she just quit???

  • Keeping Up Appearances -- a co-worker brought me the first four DVDs of his collection. Love this show, it's truly hilarious British comedy, but should be taken in small doses, or Hyacinth just gets tedious. (Must be what Richard's life feels like--tedious.)

Medical:

  • At the dentist I got my crown seated and a cavity filled.

  • Audie had a root canal, then the next week had a tooth pulled.

  • I went to the doctor for a pain in my leg (turns out to be a lipoma), but couldn't stop crying when I was there. She had me talk it all out (love my doctor), and offered advice and confirmation that I am okay.

  • Had a two-year follow-up with my orthopedic surgeon--the replaced hip looks perfect, and the other one should go another five or ten years before needing replaced.

  • Went to the doctor with Abby and Bobby--got to hear the heartbeat of my first grandchild due on September 4th. Yep, I'm gonna be a Grandma.

School:

  • Took the required timed typing test. Guess what -- after winning a typing award in high school and a secretarial scholarship, after one year of secretarial training in college, after years in the work force as a typist, I am STILL required to take the typing classes.

  • I passed the test -- 84 wpm

  • Does that pass me out of Typing I, II, III, and IV? Just Typing I. I completed Typing II. I am currently in Typing III. Grrrr.... But the classes do get more interesting from here on out. I hope.

  • Why am I doing this? Well, some day the right job will become available in my agency, and all jobs above my pay range require a degree--no matter your experience....

Shopping:

  • Purchased and returned at Kohl's, Target and K-Mart.

  • Ordered Audie clothes on-line.

  • Took Jacob thrift store shopping--I got three items, he got eight.

  • Tried to order bamboo tongs from Pampered Chef--they stopped carrying them! Boo hoo -- I love those $2 tongs. I don't want to buy the $6 tongs.

  • Listed three items for sale on Craig's list -- no takers yet.

  • Listed three items on Freecycle -- got close to 100 responses -- the items are gone. Obviously, it's easier to give away than to sell.

So, that's about it. I also got a mani/pedi, hair highlighting, and had a couple dates with friends. And now I have to give my attention to homework. I will close with a poem by Jack Prelutsky that Jacob and I came to appreciate during his days of homework woes:

Homework! Oh, Homework!

Homework! Oh, Homework! I hate you! You stink! I wish I could wash you away in the sink, if only a bomb would explode you to bits. Homework! Oh, homework! You're giving me fits.

I'd rather take baths with a man-eating shark, or wrestle a lion alone in the dark, eat spinach and liver, pet ten porcupines, than tackle the homework my teacher assigns.

Homework! Oh, homework! You're last on my list, I simply can't see why you even exist, if you just disappeared it would tickle me pink. Homework! Oh, homework! I hate you! You stink!
