Friday, June 28, 5 PM -- WHAM. I didn't recall tornado-like winds being mentioned on the weather report. But there they were, out of nowhere, just as I was ready to walk to my car to head home from the work week. I didn't want to get stuck at work, so I decided to make a dash for the car before the inevitable rain came down. Drove a half-mile before giving up--pulled under a gas station canopy until things settled down. Ten minutes later the rain and winds stopped. Power lines and trees down. Took an hour longer than normal to get home due to no working traffic lights and some debris to maneuver around. One good thing: The temp dropped 30 degrees from 100 to 70! So it wasn't bad sleeping that night without any electricity--at least it wasn't too hot.
However, things heated up again Saturday, and we were still without power. I'm a wimp in these situations. When our electric is out, we don't have water because we are on a well which requires electricity to pump the well. I packed a bag and headed for my sister's house. Tess was with me. On the way I stopped for my chiropractic appointment and massage--no power there either, but I still needed to be adjusted, and I still needed the massage on my right shoulder, even though it was uncomfortably warm for that 30 minutes. Onward ho, through the dangerous 4-way-stop intersections. But as we got closer to Becca's house, the stop lights were working and businesses were open. Hooray!
Sigh, it's 9:42 PM Wednesday, and there is so much to write about, but I am sleepy and I do have to get up for work in the morning. More later.....
